Body Chorus 006 draws inspiration from ‘Self-Portrait with Death Playing the Fiddle’ (1872) by Arnold Böcklin. In Böcklin’s painting, death leans closely beside the artist, whispering the inevitability of mortality through the sound of the violin. This sculpture here reinterprets that intimate presence as an internal voice of detachment — a reminder to remain conscious of the self beyond material desire and the fruits of action.
The intertwined figures embody a psychological tension between attraction and awareness. Surrounded by lust, possession and worldly temptation, the body becomes both burdened and awakened, caught between immersion in the material and the pursuit of clarity.
